Visit the Wormsloe State Historic Site

Wormsloe Historic site is a popular attraction near Savannah, Georgia. Located only a few minutes drive outside of the city, if you are planning to go a couple of hours are good enough. Once you arrive take a scenic drive down the road of Spanish moss trees.  Both sides of the road are lined with trees which creates a beautiful canopy of trees beg the nature lover to venture further.

This stunning tree-lined drive contains 400 live oaks which were planted in the late 1800s. This is where parts of the movie Forrest Gump were filmed -- "run, Forrest, run!"

Wormsloe should be at the top of your list during a visit to Savannah.

Visit St. Simons Island Georgia

Our vacation to St. Simons Island was very relaxing.  What we discovered was a gem of a beach and a quiet place for retreat and solitude. The slow place of the island was a perfect spot to recharge from a hectic full time life. We enjoyed our time so much we have begun planning to go back again hopefully very soon. 

Surrounded by expansive beaches, moss-draped oaks, and salt marshes, Saint Simons Island, is part of the Golden Isles chain near Brunswick, is a nearly 18 square mile island.  Lots of opportunities to fish in the rivers, tidal creeks,  and the Atlantic Ocean.  You’ll find charters and guides at the Golden Isles Marina, and you can also fish off the St. Simons Island Pier and surf cast on stretches of beach on the island’s north end. For such a compact island, Saint Simons is filled with historic sites.

St. Simons Island  remains a sleepy coastal town with lots of things to do here.

Best Places to Visit Savannah

Savannah  is the oldest city in Georgia. Known for its cobblestone streets, coastal scenery, and historic squares and houses.  The laid-back vibe and intriguing history Savannah will delight every type of traveler with its Southern charm and hospitality.  It is said that Savannah is the most haunted city in America as for me the most beautiful city I have ever been.

Here are some tips to help you get your trip planned and figure out where you should go and what you should do, to help make your Savannah vacation a success.

1. Sightseeing Tours

There is so much to see in Savannah which is not surprising to find different kinds of tours. Such as the Carriage Tours, Hop On Bus and Trolley Tours. But, if you are on a tight budget you can drive on your own. We recommend to stop by at Savannah Visitor Center in the restored Central of Georgia railroad station at 301 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, where you can pick up  some maps and other helpful information.

Savannah Georgia's Historic District

This historic district  is undoubtedly the biggest draw for people to come to Savannah, known as a city with a rich history.  It is said that Savannah is the most haunted city in America as for me the most beautiful city I have ever been. We started at Forsythe Park and zig-zag our way through all of the squares. We love the city,  it looks like everyone is really doing a great job preserving historical architecture. Lots of stuff to see like - really old architectures/houses, shops and restaurants.

Unfortunately we needed more time to see it all. But we really enjoyed walking around Historical Savannah. Everyone needs to visit the Historic district in Savannah. There is something to learn on every street.

Savannah City Hall Dome is the most distinctive building in town with its clock-tower topped with a gold dome and a towering American flag.  The dome was historically copper, but was coated in gold leaf as recently as 1987.

Soul-Searching at Bonaventure Cemetery

Featured on Travel Channel as  "World’s Most Haunted Cemetery”.

Have you ever watch the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" a non-fiction story by John Berendt?  If not, I suggest you should before going to this historic graveyard so that you have an idea what to expect here. We traveled to the Old South to visit this extraordinary place. We did not book a tour, but we drove and walked the cemetery ourselves. I recommend you to stop by at the visitor center and ask for a map this cemetery is at least 100 acres in size.

We went here during the day so, no ghost were seen or felt .  I had never seen so much Spanish moss in my whole life.  I felt like the trees were crying for the loss of their loved ones.  You can wander the rows and rows of gravestones for hours on end.  Bonaventure is so eerily beautiful that you can almost forget you're surrounded by the dead.

The stories that the headstones and tombs tell are absolutely fascinating! This place is rich  in history definitely a sight to see and on the things to do. If you're visiting Savannah, Georgia, no visit is complete without a visit to Bonaventure Cemetery. Located on a scenic bluff of the Wilmington River, east of Savannah, Georgia.

Wandering around this cemetery is hauntingly beautiful walk back in time. The further back you go the more you can see.

French Gothic style Cathedral of St. John the Baptist

I'm so excited to share our wonderful  3-days trip in Savannah, Georgia. Finally I got a chance to upload all our photos and I'm in the mood of writing a blog post. To me Savannah is a city like no other. Whether you are strolling in Forsyth Park, discovering the historic squares on a horse-drawn buggy tour or venturing out to see what the locals do — Savannah is such a beautiful city.  Let me take you to the oldest Roman Catholic church in Georgia.
