Visiting the Nashville Zoo

The Nashville Zoo is so great! We've been here numerous times for couple of years, just to visit on a typical day. We really enjoyed our experiences here. The zoo is located outside of downtown Nashville. I highly recommend ordering tickets before arriving to the zoo or get the Annual Pass.  Waiting in line wasn't fun and wasted a good amount of time. No discounts for tickets other than if a person is a veteran or member of the zoo. But children under two are free.

 

Walking paths were decently shaded, so not stuck in the hot sun for too long while walking around. This bamboo trail was the coolest part.

Visited Lucky Ladd Farm

We have visited Lucky Ladd Farms like couple of times a year.  This farm far exceeded my expectations, very well developed and maintained.  From the petting zoo to the slides, we love all the activities that they offer.  I recommend visiting any time of year, as they have a cute splash pad in the summer months and pumpkin patch in the Fall.  There is so much to do; you could make a whole day out of a trip here.

Enjoying the Snowy days

This year we had a cold and snowy winter, which was unusual, especially in middle of Tennessee. In fact, I think the whole country had a rough winter. The recent massive snow storm brought the record low temperatures, ice and snow across the country - has left millions of Americans without power. 

We got a good amount of snow over the weekend and had such a great time playing in it. We don't always get a lot of snow out here, so when it does come we make sure to enjoy it while it lasts.  Whether you’re wrapped in a blanket on your couch or out playing in the snow, there’s wintry inspiration all around us, and always something to share with our family.

Making memories with family is what life is all about.

Rainforest Cafe at Opry Mills

Rainforest Cafe restaurant is designed to depict some features of a tropical rainforest, including plant growth, mist, waterfalls, and figures of rainforest animals, including elephants, gorillas, jaguars, snakes, frogs, iguanas, butterflies, and tropical birds. It also includes fish tanks. The fun part , is that every 45 minutes or so, a jungle thunderstorm rolls through the establishment, complete with lightning and thunder.

Most of their locations also have themed exteriors as well as interiors. So far we've been to two of their locations: The Rainforest Cafe in Niagara Falls, New York - Canada border they have the appearance of ancient jungle ruins.  While mall locations like the one in Nashville, Tennessee have waterfalls and simulated plant growth outside of them, visible to those who pass in the mall. There are also a few reef fish tanks in each restaurant. Most locations have two tanks connected over the throughway from the gift shop to the restaurant.

The entrance is very pretty  hard to resist not to get in. Snakes are mostly positioned at the entrance of the retail village, wrapped around a branch and greeting guests from above.

A day trip to Downtown Nashville

Located on the Cumberland River, Nashville is a small town in a big city — Nashville, TN is famous for being the home of country music. Plenty of bars with live music are everywhere as well and the cowboy greeters are full of personality. Restaurants featuring great brisket and ribs are easy to find along with more sophisticated restaurants at street level and in the high rises. It is fun to walk along downtown, but you can take a horse drawn carriage or even pedal a beer bike around.

If you haven’t visited  the Music City recently I suggest you should, wear your cowboy boots and head to Tennessee’s capital city.

Jack Daniel's Whiskey Distillery: The History, Design and Innovation

Who was Jack Daniels? Most of us are familiar with the name Jack Daniels, even if you aren’t a whiskey fan like me.  Jack Daniels was born in Tennessee in 1850 and died there in 1911. 

He was a small man, only 5 foot 2 inches and he is also a man of style.

Jack Daniel's Whiskey Distillery: The Making Process

We made it to Lynchburg, Tennessee  specifically to come here. Even though I am not a massive fan of hard liquor, I must say, I personally enjoyed this tour. I was expecting like a thirty minute briefing on a free tour, but we were on the tour for almost two hours. You go through the entire process of Jack Daniel's whiskey being made, from the burning of the charcoal, to the barreling of the whiskey. It's amazing to see how it's made. Moving on down you get to tour the different buildings that have the mash and you can even smell the "white lightning" that will float your way. You'll get to see the barrel making & then tour the buildings that hold the barrels that are aging. 

Some of the tour allows photos & some don't that areas where the magic happens.  At the end you can have some free lemonade.  Technically it's not legal to any store in the county to sell liquor but you have an option to buy some whiskey they have for sale at the distillery. At the end of the tour, we bought a bottle of Single Barrel Jack, a whiskey glass and fridge magnet. It's so worth the money to commemorate this experience. I will talk about the history and show more photos on my next post.
