Taking our toddler to the beach - Florida Getaway

Thursday, August 26, 2021

The beach is one of the best places for a couple to relax and to take your toddler because there’s nowhere to hide and plenty of visibility.  Toddlers will enjoy the sunshine and fresh air and you’ll enjoy getting a tan. Just like our little boy this is probably our toddler’s first real vacation... at least where he is more mobile.  So we let him lead the way, get dirty and have fun.  If you let your little one lead their way you may be surprised at where you end up.

It was early April when we  took our boy on a spontaneous trip to the beach to unwind and change of scenery as well.

One of our favorite things to have at the beach is this  rolling wagon.  It works great because you can put all your beach gear in the wagon and pull it across the sand. There are wagons that are made for the beach. The wheels on this one are designed specifically to handle the sand. (available in Amazon site).

Don’t stress, the beach will be fun for your toddler and he/she will have much to explore. There’s nothing like a first trip to the beach so make sure you get great photos of your toddler on the sand and in the water.

Going at the beach is so much fun. Simply looking at the blue ocean makes us happy and the joy of splashing in the water and with our toddler playing with the sand is priceless.

Protection yourself and your baby from the Sun:

It takes some work but you need to do more than just to apply sunscreen when at the beach.  Remember the sun is like 10x more powerful along the coast even on overcast days.  I highly suggest bring along a beach umbrella or tent.  I know you’re toddler is not going to stay under the umbrella most of the time - but they will seek it out once they start getting hot.  That’s why it’s also important to try to get them to wear a hat, put a rashguard bodysuit with a UPF 50 or greater on them to protect their arms and shoulders.  Try not to stay right on the beach for more than 45 minutes at a time.

Also, going out early in the day helps to not only beat the crowds but also makes it so nap time is the drive home!

  6. I remember my kids didn't like the sand much when they were real little. It was much easier and more fun taking them to the beach when they got older.
