Visiting Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

Tuesday, June 9, 2020
At the time of our visit in late April, the reserve was closed due to the coronavirus. However,  there are lots of places along side the road  that you can stop and take photos or videos that  are equally covered with the beautiful flowers.

What a spectacular sight to see thousands of brilliantly orange poppies fluttering and dancing in the desert wind. It's absolutely splendid to see ground, that is usually desert land, sprout these majestic flowers each year.

Californians, poppies are the brilliant orange wildflowers that carpet our landscape in early spring. A field of these vivid blossoms swaying in the breeze is a real treat for the eye.

What a lovely sight on God's green earth. I highly recommend seeing this at least once in your life. Beautiful way to take in fresh air and nature. Great for photo opportunities. Perfect for a family outing, group of friends or even a solo trip.

No flowers were harmed while making this photo, our little one first Spring experience.

Our little one is so fascinated with the bright colors the moment he sees it, he wants to touch it he's only 4 months old!

Friendly Tips:
-Be mindful when walking and don't crush the poppies! There are plenty of breaks in between the poppies that you can walk on instead of stepping on these wonderful flowers.

- Be sure to bring a camera, water, and maybe check the weather. The desert landscape can be bitterly cold or aggressively hot in April when the bloom seems to peak.

This is a MUST DO for every Californian, as far as I'm concerned. Thankfully, the desolation and the beauty of this place, mostly devoid of people, was the kind of social distancing we  needed after several weeks of being safer (and bored-er) at home.

  8. Thanks for the tips on walking around carefully and not crushing the poppies. The poppies here are as beautiful as the poppies we have in England. They are red in colour.
