Visit the Salvation Mountain

Monday, April 22, 2019
Last week we headed out on an Adventurous road trip. We checked out this eclectic community of Slab City, California - We loved all the colors and we all enjoyed the artistic feel to this area. It’s amazing what you can find in the desert. Salvation Mountain has always been very intriguing to me. It’s out in the middle of nowhere but people come from all over the world to see it.

Salvation mountain is a painted hillside in the SoCal desert. It’s creator, Leonard Knight, who passed away in 2014, decided to spread a message of love after accepting Jesus. It was created many years ago, Leonard  was passionate about getting the message of salvation to everyone.

This handmade masterpiece by Leonard Knight is just taking my breath away!

This ever-changing artwork in the Sonoran Desert is a proclamation of faith and love, built from salvaged materials with a generous use of donated paint.

Leonard Knight is the genius artist behind this amazing artwork. He started with one bag of cement and wanted to spend a week building a monument to share the gospel with others. That week turned into many weeks, which turned into months and then years. The mountain grew and grew with cement and paint but ended up crumbling. He decided to rebuild, using clay. He painted it, and even after his death several years ago, there are caretakers that keep it up and repair it as needed.

Tons of paint is donated to keep it colorful. It was Leonard’s hope that his message of love would be seen by those all over the world.  It was really special to see in person.

Walking at the hand-painted yellow brick road to Salvation Mountain’s 50ft summit. So worth the drive to the desert.

A creative tribute to God and God's love for us.

A lot of history to learn. Take time and look at all the pieces.

We enjoyed walking through the colorful trees, with all the positive writings on the walls.

Mesmerize

They painted this old camper such a brilliant idea.

Another successful Jeep adventure on a sunny California desert.

    1. I am not sure sis , maybe there is that I am not aware of. This is the first time I see huge place of fully human art. Except the mountain and the dirt of course. It blows my mind how talented and creative the artist behind this Mountain art. To come out with this brilliant attraction.
