Tips for Planning a Romantic Getaway

Thursday, May 5, 2016
Between taking care of the kids, working at your full time job and all those other commitments that you do every day, you probably miss the romance that you once shared with your spouse or partner. If you find yourself going to bed every night at different times, spending more time with your kids than you do with each other or arguing over petty things for no reason, a romantic vacation can put the spark back in your relationship. Planning that romantic getaway starts when you pick the right location.

You could be here ...
Choosing a Destination

The best destination for your romantic getaway depends on what the two of you like to do. Couples who love the excitement of boating, snorkeling and swimming might like staying at the Marriott Singer Island, while those who enjoy curling up by the fireplace and skiing may prefer a romantic Vermont ski chalet. State parks are also a good choice, especially for couples on a budget. You can often rent a cabin for less than a hotel room. If your budget is even smaller, skip the cabin completely in favor of a camp site set up with a tent and sleeping bags.

Planning for Activities

Taking a romantic getaway lets you put the spark back in your relationship, but you shouldn't expect everything to go perfectly. While you might walk into that room and immediately start ripping the clothes off each other, you may need to relax and unwind a little. Look at the type of activities available in the hotel, resort or park and the type of activities nearby too. Spend some time having fun together as you walk along hiking trails, tour historic sites or museums and play in the water. Treat each day of your trip like a date with your loved one.

Getting Help

Before you pick a date and start planning your romantic trip, you need to get some help. If you have kids at home, you need a nanny or a babysitter to take care of those kids while you're away from home. Even if you don't have kids, you'll want someone to watch over your house, bring in your mail, water your plant and care for your pets. Make those arrangements ahead of time to truly enjoy your trip. Choosing the right location is just one step in planning the perfect romantic getaway with your partner.

  1. Oh, how I would love to have a getaway! A nice, quiet place to unplug and relax.... Great tips - the babysitter is always the clincher, though for us. Thanks for sharing!

  3. It is always so hard to get a babysitter for us. With 3 kids no one really wants to watch all of them. So, I end up having to split them all up and have 3 people watch 1 kid. I would love to go on vacation and just enjoy it. I think I need to save for a babysitter that will watch all 3

  4. Aaaaah, wouldn't it be awesome to leave the kids and have alone time with the man I married! I have three kids, and finding a sitter is near impossible. Even the in laws won't watch them all at once. But that picture makes me long for a time when traveling was easy...it's fuel for my mom fantasies :)

  8. I don't have a partner to get romantic with, but I do think that planning activities is smart. I went on a 7 day cruise last year and even though it was awesome, I do wish we had planned some activities for when we were in the ports. You should definitely also make plans far ahead of time.

  11. So you want to plan my next getaway with hubby? Lol it sounds amazing but it seems that I'm so rarely able to pull it together and actually have it come to fruition. This is motivating enough to make me give it a go though.
