Cinematic Ozone Falls

Saturday, April 30, 2016
Spring is fast approaching and we're both itching to get outside and breathe in the fresh air. We wanted to do a short hike with lots of cliffs and waterfalls. So we decided to check out the Ozone Falls which I have read that this is the area where a battle scene in the "Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book"  movie took place in 1994. (pretty cool , huh?)

Stunning Grand Ozone Falls

This stunningly grand Ozone Falls is a 110-foot waterfall on Falls Creek that has been a popular tourist attraction for more than a century. The waterfall was named Ozone, because the mist from the falls was believed to have healthy qualities. Today, the waterfall is protected as part of Ozone Falls State Natural Area and it's just a short hike to see.

It is located just off U.S. Highway 70, Crab Orchard, Tennessee.  From the parking area, a very short trail leads to the top of the waterfall, but you can't see much from here. There are no fences or railing so be careful near the top.

The parking is small and can fill quickly I recommend getting there early to beat the crowds.  Some may say the trail to the bottom of the falls is difficult and strenuous. I am a seasoned hiker, and did not find an issue with it. I'm not a fan of heights but I made it down just fine, although I did stop a few times to figure out where to put my feet. Continue on the trail back towards the highway and it will curve back around and head down towards the waterfall.

The trip to the bottom of the falls can be slippery, but it is a beautiful walk.

Ozone Falls is my absolute favorite waterfall. The view is breathtaking, no matter where you're standing/sitting. It offers a lovely and incredibly relaxing place to enjoy the view!
This is a perfect place for just chilling out in the sun for a while with exceptional scenery.

You can swim in the pool below the waterfall, stand underneath the waterfall, and even walk behind it. If I lived in the area, I would be here all the time on hot summer days!

I'm standing at one of the highest cliffs in the area (wooah!)
We enjoyed our visit to Ozone Falls and would recommend it to others.

  9. Incredible. The only waterfall I have ever seen is a manmade one in a local park. It doesn't have anything on this beauty of nature. Truly awesome.
