Our Favourite Spanish Ports of Call

Spain is a country that is as diverse as it is beautiful, with a holiday destination for every family's needs and budget.

If you're yet to decide where to jet off to this summer, then how about Spain? There's far more to this country than 18-30 revelry. Rather, it's a place where the whole family can relax and unwind, regardless of age. From culture for the adults to fun activities for the kids, it's a country that has it all – and has the numbers to prove it. In August 2014, record numbers of tourists visited – with over two million of those being British. So, where are the best places to travel to in Spain this summer?

Corralejo

Corralejo is one of Fuerteventura's many beauty spots, with long sandy beaches stretching along the Atlantic coastline. There's plenty for the kids to do, from exploring nature reserves to trying their hand at watersports. For the adults, there are plenty of pubs and bars to unwind in.

Portinatx

Portinatx is a hidden gem. Situated on the island of Ibiza, it's a far cry from the neighboring San Antonio. Here you'll find a laid back atmosphere rather than non-stop partying, with beaches perfect to build sandcastles and take an afternoon siesta on.

Barcelona

Barcelona is the perfect city for families. For adults there are countless cultural landmarks such as The Sagrada Familia and Gaudi's House, while the city's zoo and beaches are great fun for kids. The Barcelona Card will save you plenty of money, so don't forget to pick one up!

Bilbao

For those who love the outdoors, there's no better place than Bilbao. With beaches, mountains and forests, it's the ideal place to camp. While there are no resorts, the natural beauty of the area is enough of a draw in itself.

Port de Pollença

Port de Pollença offers tourists a completely different side to Mallorca. In comparison to its hard-partying neighbour Magaluf, Port de Pollença is sedate and perfect for families. You might even spot Bradley Wiggins – he loves to holiday here with his wife and children.

Salou

Salou has managed to retain its Mediterranean charm as well as being a very modern tourist destination. Alongside as crystal clear blue waters and sandy beaches you'll find luxury resorts and theme parks – making it ideal for the whole family.

Madrid

Madrid is the capital city of Spain, and is steeped in local history and folklore. There are plenty of museums, galleries and landmarks to satisfy kids with an interest in history – and you may end up learning something too!

Aigua Blava

Aigua Blava is perfect for those who want to get away from it all. Situated in the less commercial part of the Costa Brava, its quaint streets and bustling harbour are never heaving with tourists. We may have let the cat out of the bag now though!

Puerto de Mogán

Puerto de Mogán on the Spanish island of Tenerif, with its squat white houses covered in bougainvillea, is a place that looks like no other. Its old world charm makes it the perfect place to get away from the stresses of modern life, and is one of Gran Canaria's most popular destinations as a result.

Puerto de la Cruz

Also on Tenerife, the northern town of Puerto de la Cruz is home to blockbuster attractions such as Loro Parque and the Lago Martianez water park, making it perfect for little (and big!) kids.

Enjoy your trip!

As you can see, there's somewhere in Spain for everyone. Whether you're looking for an exciting city break or a chilled out fortnight on the beach, you'll find the perfect destination for you. Just remember to shop around for the best deals and pre-book for any attractions to save yourself as much money and time as possible when you arrive.
