Valley of Fire State Park

Monday, September 17, 2012
Once again for the third times we visited Las Vegas, although our reason of coming here is for my husband’s  Conference which was held in Ravella Lakefront Resort. We don’t have plenty of time to look around but that’s okay at least we get a chance to relax and have a good time. I think most people that go to Vegas never leave the city to explore the natural wonders that surround it. This time there’s no way we will miss the Valley of Fire.

A short drive from Las Vegas Strip, about an hour and half. Drive itself is very beautiful. The desert vistas and rock formations are amazing. Colors are wonderful during sunrise or sunset. Inside the park, different viewing points are identified.  We just drive down and do sightseeing.  The scenic loop drive is like another world. The Bee Hives were great. There were not so many people that time. It was amazing to be alone in such wilderness. The Valley of Fire State Park is one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. Enjoy our photos and tell me what you think :)

The red rock is Sandstone, the brown is Limestone, and the black is Granite

The Beehives not only demonstrate the unique design that can be created by Nature, but is an excellent representation of geologic cross bedding. Those are the grooved lines going in different directions. The layers or beds represent different layers of silt that are deposited at different times. The beds indicate the angle the wind or water was moving at the time the material was deposited.
