New York - the big apple. Unless you are part of an isolated tribe, you know about this city. It is the beating heart of the urban world, something which proves that cities can become massive, and with a population so high in such a small amount of space, it’s amazing how well it functions. A visit here often overwhelms you with the sheer amount of stuff you can do, and this can be disorienting in the first analysis. If you’re wise though, you can make the most of the city.

But why bother seeing the same sites everyone else does? When it comes to seeing the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and Times Square, you likely have at least five days of your holiday left. Well, one of the best ways to immortalize your trip to this city is to visit the most quirky events and places imaginable. After finding cheap flights to New York, this should be on your agenda.  Believe us when we say this city has quirky and strange in spades. The following areas can prove that completely:

Scavenger Hunt

Central Park is the hosting zone to a commonly held ‘Scavenger Hunt’, in which your smart phone directs your route and allows you to find challenges in the environment. Solving these puzzles can take the better part of two hours, and feel like a real adventure to be had within the confines of the park. If the city gets a little too much for you in its size and scope, then this wonderful green space can also serve as a therapeutic remedy to the chaos of the city.

Helicopter Ride
Of course, New York city looks the best when you can view the entire skyline as one. If you’re able to do this, you can definitely translate some of your best memories into beautiful shots on a rented DSLR, shots you can blow up and hang on the wall as giant posters in your home. This helicopter ride can show you some amazing locations. We’d recommend leaving this until the end of your trip, so you can cap off your inner tour of the city with and overarching and final emotional farewell.

Superheroes Tour
Thanks to New York being the famous set and setting of some of the best movies ever made, the superheroes tour of this city allows you to see some of the most iconic shots. If you’re a fan of Marvel movies, this is the place to be. Marvel also has headquarters in New York, and sometimes they are open for tours. If you’d like to see at least the basis of where Stan Lee has walked into work on a daily basis, then this can be the place for you. The superheroes tour is long enough to help you build up a mighty appetite, so it’s lucky that many beautiful and themed restaurants are on the route. How else will you build the strength to lift up the hammer of Thor?

With these tips, you’re sure to experience a wonderful and quirky visit to the excellent Big Apple.

  5. I live in New York City and there are so many great things to see and do at any hour of the day or night, and there are more free things to do than most people realize, it's all a matter of doing a little reading so you can plot out your itin and line up which things to see, eat or do that are in the same section of the city and then pick a different one each day.
