A Day Hike at Cummins Falls State Park

Wednesday, March 30, 2016
My husband and I had wanted to visit Cummins Falls since we moved to Tennessee three years ago and I finally convinced him to go. This place is beautiful! I can see why it was ranked one of the ten best swimming holes in America. We left  at home around 11 A.M. and there were only maybe less than 20  people when we arrived. The weather is nice for a hike but the water is still freezing.  I would absolutely recommend this if you go on a hot day in summer but expect it could be pretty crowded.

This is definitely not the adventure for you if you're not pretty active and in decent shape, it can be really dangerous. But once you get to the falls, I promise you it will all be worth it!! We will definitely be going back again but next time we will be more prepared.

Cummins Falls simply beautiful and serene.
Let me start with, do not, under any circumstances, wear flip-flops - ever. Before you consider making this hike, you should definitely invest in a good pair of water shoes. The hike for 2 miles there and back  can be difficult at times with a lot of slippery rocks and logs that you have to climb. My advice, pack super light and wear adequate footwear.

The first part of your hike is 1/2 mile straight down hill. And yes, that means the last half-mile of your hike back is straight uphill.

The hike involved rock climbing and scaling a large boulder.

This is one of the stream that you have to cross on foot several times. The water that time is freezing and up to knees (I am 5'2)

Such a relaxing place to unwind.

Up close view,  there's not much people during that time. But it can be very crowded in summer.

Large swimming hole at the bottom of the falls was perfect!

Beautiful waterfalls

Bucket list check off ✔: Hiked and experience waterfalls to one of the most beautiful swimming holes in the United States.

  5. We've been hiking trails and falls for years, and it never gets old. There's something magical about following a stream or creek and just letting it take you somewhere.

  10. Wow that looks like such a beautiful place! I'm always on the lookout for beautiful places I can hike to with my dog, and I especially love waterfalls. I think we need a bit more practice though before we can handle a tricky hike like that one.

  12. Judging on the pictures you have provided, the place to get there seems to be remote, love nature too they seem to be fascinating and just have it's natural beauty. The falls is magnificent, seeing from here makes me want to jump and enjoy the falling of waters from the up ground.
