Beautiful drive up to the Pikes Peak

Saturday, May 24, 2014
Colorado has 54 mountains over 14,000 feet. One of them is in city of Colorado Springs: Pikes Peak.  Pikes Peak stands at 14,110 feet high. We visited Colorado Springs this May 9, 2014 for a vacation and drove up to Pikes Peak in our own car. If you don't mind spending money you can ride the cog railway for $35 per person. The drive is stunning. A once in a lifetime trip. Beware it is usually very cold and windy at the top. And be sure you bring lots of water you will feel lightheaded due to the high altitude as you go further. The road to the top of Pikes Peak is a winding panoramic , if you are afraid of heights this might be a challenge. Unfortunately we were unable to make it to the highest peak due to bad weather, the drive itself is well worth the trip. More photos to come on my next post. --

Interstate 40 (I-40) is the third-longest Interstate Highway in the United States
Pikes Peak Highway

The weather change drastically as you drive further..

Intestine Road

Some road at the top has no guard rails pretty scary!

    1. I'm catching my breath due to change of altitude as you go up high. My husband who happen to be an experience driver for once get scared of the road with no guard rails but of course he didn't tell during our trip or else I will be worried. He said he hold his sneeze and yawn all hrs of driving :) it was a great trip.
